j reveiw of snuff box-yes you've guessed it i disagree-but why?
maybe I'm out of touch but i watch comedy that causes me to laugh, you know laugh.
not remark " oh that's slightly macabre and therefore brilliant"
i agree it's fun when comedians make us laugh in new ways using surreal pathos ie early vic 'n bob or the imagination foot in mouth of patridge.
however i feel bbc 3s output in recent years has had its eyes set on being different from the mainstream
( and what a state that's in -little " gone gross to appeal to plebs" britan, catherine " one joke" tate, my " is it me or is really shite" family )
bbc 3 throws money at anyone who's got half an idea, a way out concept. a wouldn't it be funny if...it isn't.
snuff box is jam-lite, chris morris cast offs, come on it reeks of a vanity project. the acting or whatever it is is self indulgent, the writing is incomplete and inconsistent .
i felt no empathy for the characters, the leads playing themselves or hangmen wasn't clear ,they looked just like actors walking around bbc corridors with little effort going into their performances ,maybe that's what the show was going for:
"look at the lazy performances, look at lack of rapour between the main characters, look weird ideas being introduced but not being developed and just hanging in the air waiting for the veiwer to find the joke, if there is one"
even the most obscure humour has references points so u can care for the characters, the mighty boosh goes way out there but uses strong indentifiable leads on the journey beyound.
if u watch comedy to laugh then come to kingston on may 2nd, 3rd,4th, 30th,31st for sex and lies and superheroes-batman meets buffy- at the athur cottarel theatre, kingston for a pair of free tickets contact
